UCLA & Notre Dame Tied for No. 1 in March 11 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- For the first time since defending National Champion California Polytechnic State Unviersity was ranked No. 1 in the preseason poll, a team other than the Univeristy of Notre Dame is ranked No. 1 in the country as the University of California-Los Angeles garnered 97 points to tie the Irish for the top spot in the March 11 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.
Ranked No. 1 for the past seven weeks, Notre Dame could not hold off a charging UCLA this week. Over the past several weeks the gap between the Irish and Bruins has been consistently closing from a two points two weeks ago to a single point last week.
Overall, only four teams from last week's Top 20 retained their rankings in the March 11 Poll as Notre Dame (No. 1), the University of Michigan (No. 3), Michigan State University (No. 13) and Boston College (No. 16) held on for another week.
Trailing behind Notre Dame, UCLA and Michigan, Cal Poly picked up 80 points to move into a tie for fourth place with the University of California. The University of California-Davis slips back to No. 6, with the Univeristy of Oregon, Grand Valley State University, University of Pennsylvania and University of Texas round out the Top 10.
The University of California-Santa Cruz and University of Utah fall out of the Top 10 this week with the Banana Slugs and Utes holding down the No. 11 and 12 positions, respectively. Michigan State, San Diego State University and University of Colorado account for No. 13-15, with Boston College, Middlebury College, University of California-San Diego, University of Central Florida and University of Florida complete the Top 20.
