Indiana's Cassie Wyckoff Named March 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Cassie Wyckoff (So., Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) of No. 18-ranked Indiana University made 24 saves with eight goals allowed in 64 minutes of play to lead the Hoosiers in games versus No. 17 Brown University and No. 8 University of Michigan at home in the Elite Eight Tournament to earn notice as the March 8 Women's Varsity Western Division Defensive Player of the Week.

The award marks her second Defensive Player of the Week nod in less than a month as she garnered the February 15 Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award three weeks ago for her play at the Bison Invitational.

In the first round against No. 17 Brown, she made 10 saves on 24 shots to go along with one steal as she suffocated Brown's offense to anchor the Hoosiers to a 9-1 win.  The eight-goal spread marks the largest margin of victory in any Brown-Indiana water polo game erasing the previous mark of six goals set on March 1, 2008 in a 14-8 Hoosiers' win.

Facing perennial division rival Michigan, she tied a season-high with 14 saves on 28 shots in a 7-6 loss.  She held the Wolverines' offense in check with key saves through three periods of play before a three-goal outburst by the Maize and Blue in the fourth quarter proved to be too much to overcome.

Her save totals from the Brown and Michigan games mark the fifth and sixth double-digit save performances of the season for Wyckoff to raise her season total to 98 stops.  For her career, she has accumulated 293 saves to stand 19 stops away from eclipsing Kate Toole for fifth place on the all-time saves list at Indiana.
