Grove City's Amanda Thompson Named March 8 Women's Varsity Division III Defensive Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Senior Amanda Thompson (Sr., Erie, Pa./McDowell) of Grove City College registered 11 goals, 10 assists, four ejections-drawn and 15 steals to key the No. 9-nationally ranked Wolverines to a 5-0 weekend in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Division III play and earn the league's Division III Defensive Player of the Week award.

Playing at Chatham University in Pittsburgh for the Division III Western-vs.-Central Region Tournament, she posted  a goal and three assists in a 10-5 victory over Wheaton College (Ill.) before tallying a goal, two assists and five steals in a 13-6 win against the host Cougars.

She wrapped up her weekend with six goals against Macalester College (14-7 W) before posting a three goals, two assists and six steals against Carthage College (13-5 W) and three assists versus No. 8 Washington & Jefferson College (13-5 W).

In addition to her defensive prowess, she finished the weekend third on the team in goals as the Wolverines moved to 6-4 on the year as Grove City is in the midst of a six-game winning streak.
