Hartwick's Lily Martinez Named February 22 Women's Varsity Northern Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Hartwick College's Lily Martinez (Fr., Commerce, Calif./Montebello) tallied six goals, seven assists and 14 steals in a 3-1 weekend of competition for the No. 12-nationally ranked Hawks at the Princeton Invitational to earn the February 22 Women's Varsity Northern Division Rookie of the Week award.
The accolade marks her second straight Northern Division Rookie of the Week nod as she also picked up the February 15 award.
She becomes the first player in the history of the Northern Division to earn the award in back-to-back weeks as joins Allison Peotter of George Washington University (February 23-March 2, 2009) and Amanda Skonezney of Bucknell University (March 9-16, 2009) of the Southern Division and Jakie Kohli of Indiana University (March 23-30, 2009) and Meagan Cobb of the University of Michigan (April 20-27, 2009) from the Western Division in garnering back-to-back Rookie of the Week awards in the the entirety of the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
Last week, she tallied two goals, three kick-outs drawn and five steals in a 14-11 loss to No. 5-nationally ranked the University of Michigan, while posting three goals, an assist and three steals in a 20-14 victory over Iona College. In addition, she chipped in three assists and three steals in a 16-11 win over Colorado State University and tacked on three assists with three steals in a 21-13 rout of Wagner College.
