No. 20 Princeton Claws Gannon 21-5 to Open 2010 Campaign

PRINCETON, N.J. -- The 20th-ranked Princeton University women's water polo team began its 2010 season with a resounding win as the Tigers bested Gannon 21-5 at DeNunzio Pool.

Phoebe Champion (Sr., Palo Alto, Calif./Palo Alto) led the Princeton offense with six goals in the win, matching a career high, while Lauren Brunner (Jr., Sacramento, Calif./St. Francis) added four more goals and a host of others added single goals in the win. Grace du Pont (So., Tarrytown, N.Y./Phillips Exeter Academy), making her first appearance in goal, stopped 10 Gannon shots.

Princeton's 21 goals tied for the fifth highest scoring output in program history and was Princeton's highest goal total in nearly 10 years, dating back to a 21-5 win over Bucknell in the 2000 season.

The Tigers jumped out to a 7-3 lead after one quarter and kept the pressure up with four more second period goals. Princeton shut out Gannon in the second half, adding 10 scores of its own to create the final margin. 

Annie Greenhill (Sr.,Brea, Calif./Brea Olinda) led the Lady Knights' attack with four goals. Kendra Plackemeier (Sr., Bonsall, Calif./Fallbrook) contributed a goal as well. Janelle Bartman (Fr., Buffalo Grove, Ill./Stevenson) made five saves in net, while Libbie Guina (So., Houston, Texas/Clear Brook) added two saves in the fourth quarter.
