CWPA Releases 2010 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship Schedule

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) has released the schedule of games and bracket for the 2010 Women's National Collegiate Club Championship to be hosted by the University of Arizona on April 23-25 in Tucson, Arizona.

Unlike previous tournaments, the 2010 Championship will be the first to play out the entire bracket. Previously, the bottom four finishers in the bracket would be tied at either 13th place or 15th place without a game to break the tie nor would the four teams compete on the final date of competition.

The championship marks the second time in four years a National Collegiate Club Championship will be contested at Arizona as the Wildcats hosted the 2007 Men's National Collegiate Club Championship on November 9-11, 2007.

Further, it marks the second time Arizona will host the Women's National Collegiate Club Championship as the title tournament previously came to Tucson on May 5-7, 2000.

Hotel and ticket information will be posted when it becomes available in the next month.  Check the Collegiate Water Polo Association website with additional information and a list of teams which qualify for the championship.

The tournament is not seeded by ability, since there is no equitable means to determine the respective strength of the teams. Too few teams play outside of their division schedules to be able to create an accurate seeding. Match-ups are therefore based upon the 2009 National Collegiate Club Championship results by division. The Host region receives two automatic bids, one of which is assumed by the division champion and the other by the host site or division runner-up (the 16th position). This ensures the tournament host is always a participant.

The teams are seed based on a policy voted in during the 2008 Annual Meeting.  The seeding rule states: The top eight division winners will be seeded according to their division's finish the prior season. Places nine and ten will be reserved for the top two division runner-ups in order of their division's finish. The remaining places will be filled with the divisions according to their division's finish the prior season, with random draws used to break ties in placing.

Teams listed first wear dark caps and are home on the scoreboard. Host team always wears dark caps and is listed first on the scoreboard regardless of seed.
