Maryland's Rachel Stein Named February 8 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Goalkeeper Rachel Stein (Fr., Ottawa, Ontario, Canada/Lisgar Collegiate Institute) of the University of Maryland made 11 saves and allowed 11 goals in limited action this week to earn the February 8 Women's Varsity Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week award.
Previously named the February 8 Women's Varsity Southern Division Rookie of the Week, she helped the No. 20-nationally ranked Terrapins open the season 3-1 with wins over Sonoma State University, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Long Beach State University at the UC-San Diego Triton Invitational.
She recorded two blocks with four goals allowed in a 10-5 loss to No. 15-ranked the University of California-Davis before stopping two shots with a pair of goals allowed in a 13-7 victory over Sonoma State. Stein wrapped up the weekend by permitting three goals with four saves in a 14-5 win against Pomona-Pitzer in addition to three stops with two goals allowed in an 11-7 win versus Long Beach State.
