No. 13 Hartwick Takes Down No. 6 San Diego State 12-11
LA JOLLA, Calif. - No. 13-ranked Hartwick College advanced to the University of California-San Diego Triton Invitational Championship match after defeating No. 6-ranked San Diego State University in dramatic fashion, 12-11.
Senior Kirsten Hudson (Wellington, New Zealand/Sacred Heart) registered her sixth goal with just six seconds remaining on the clock for the clincher. With the win, the Hawks improve to 3-0 on the season and defeat the Aztecs for just the second time in program history (2-7 all-time).
SDSU led after the first quarter in a shootout, 6-4, and expanded its lead to three goals at the half with a 9-6 edge. Hartwick drew a goal back and trailed 11-9 after three quarters and the Hawks shutout the Aztecs in the final quarter 3-0 for the comeback win.
Hudson added five steals and an assist to her six tallies on the day. Goalie Jess Dorman (Auckland, New Zealand/Diocesan) had a strong game making 15 saves in the Hartwick cage. She stopped a five-meter shot, recorded two steals, and dished out two assists, including the game-winner to Hudson.
Sophomore Siann Ells-Tewhiu (Wellington, New Zealand/Queen Margaret College) added two goals for the Hawks and junior Jessica McKee (Tustin, Calif./Laguna Beach) contributed a goal and two assists. Allyssa Analytis (Montreal, Quebec/Sacred Heart), Lily Martinez (Commerce, Calif./Montebello) and Hanneke Alferink (Nijverdal, Netherlands/Univ. of Groningen) each scored one goal.
