California Polytechnic Named Women's Collegiate Club Team of the Decade (2000-09)
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- California Polytechnic State University captured five of the last 10 National Collegiate Club Championships with seven title game appearances as the Mustangs earned honors as the Women's National Collegiate Club Team of the Decade based on a vote by visitors to the Collegiate Water Polo Association website.
The most honored women's national collegiate club program in the history of the sport, the Mustangs earned titles in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2009 as Cal Poly ranks as the only program to capture three-consecutive National Championships. In addition to the program's National Championship victories, the Mustangs finished second (2002, 2007), third (2001) and fifth (2006), while earning eight Pacific Coast Division Championships (2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009).
The Mustangs made history in 2004 finishing third in the Pacific Coast Division, earning a bid to the then 12-team National Collegiate Club Championship as the host team and rolling through the field to become the only non-division champion and/or bottom berth team in the history of the collegiate club championship to win the National Championship.
