Princeton's Mike Merlone Named Sept. 29 Southern Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Princeton University goalie Mike Merlone (So., Atherton, Calif./The Menlo School) made 40 saves in 96 minutes to earn the Sept. 29 Southern Division Player of the Week award in leading the No. 19 nationally ranked Tigers to wins over No. 18 Johns Hopkins University (15-14 W), No. 14 the United States Naval Academy (7-3 W) and George Washington University (11-9 W).
He made 15 saves against Hopkins, held Navy to just three goals with 11 saves and stopped 14 shots versus George Washington as Merlone helped the Tigers improve to 6-4, including a 3-0 mark in the CWPA Southern Division Eastern Region play.
