Grand Valley's Zach Heathman Named Sept. 22 Great Lakes Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Grand Valley State University's Zach Heathman (Sr., Grandville, Mich./Grandville) scored 15 goals, handed out nine assists and grabbed eight steals with 11 exclusions drawn and four penalty shots drawn to earn the September 22 Great Lakes Division Player of the Week award in a 5-0 weekend for the Lakers.
A three-time (2005-07) All-Great Lakes selection, two-time All-America (2005 HM, 2007 1st Team) selection and the 2007 division Most Valuable Player, he led the Lakers to victories over Ohio University (16-10 W), the University of Notre Dame (15-10 W), the University of Dayton (14-10 W), Ball State University (17-9 W) and the University of Chicago (5-0 W Forfeit) to clinch the No. 1 seed for the Great Lakes Division Championship set for October 18-19 at the University of Notre Dame.
He will look to lead GVSU to its seventh straight Great Lakes Division title as the Lakers previously captured the 2002-07 championships.
Last year, he helped lead his Lakers team to the National Collegiate Club Championship Tournament at the University of Arizona, where GVSU advanced to the second round as he led GVSU in assists (69) and steals (70). He also was second on the team in goals (81) and blocks (10).
