Cal Poly Remains No. 1 in September 10 Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa.  -- California Polytechnic State University, the defending National Collegiate Club champion, remains a unanimous No. 1 selection as the Mustangs held onto the top spot from the preseason poll in the September 10 Men's Collegiate Club Poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).

Cal Poly, which captured the national title with a 7-6 OT win against Big 10 champion Michigan State University after taking the Pacific Coast Division title, is followed in the poll by the Spartans for a second week as Michigan State garnered 95 points to be a unanimous second place selection.

The University of Arizona and Miami University (Ohio) held onto third and fourth place, respectively, while Florida International University climbed two places to fifth and the University of California-Davis tied Grand Valley State University for sixth place.

The University of Pennsylvania and Middlebury College remained eighth and ninth, while Indiana University jumped two spots to 10th to round out the Top 10.

Mid-Atlantic Division champion the University of Pennsylvania, New England Division champion Middlebury College and Rocky Mountain Division champion the University of Utah round out the Top 10 in the preseason poll.

The lone newcomer to the Top 20 is the University of Notre Dame as the Fighting Irish tied the University of California-San Diego for 16th place after not receiving a vote last week.

The Varsity Top 20, CWPA, Division III and National Collegiate Club polls will be released each Wednesday during the season by 5:00 p.m. The next polls will be released on September 10.
