Iona's Joe Przekota Named Oct. 6 Northern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Iona College's Joe Przekota (Jr., Park Ridge, Ill./St. Patrick's) scored 17 goals with three assists and 12 ejections drawn in a six game West Coast swing to earn the October 6 Northern Division Player of the Week award and guide the Gaels to a 3-3 record.
The team's leading scorer with 119 goals entering the season, Przekota raised his career total to 165 scored by pushing his season total to 46 goals courtesy a breakout performance at the Claremont Convergence.
He opened his week with five goals and two kickouts drawn in a 12-11 victory over Concordia College before dropping a goal with an assist and three kickouts drawn in a 13-8 loss to No. 17 California Baptist University.
At the Claremont Convergence, Przekota netted 11 goals with two assists and seven kick-outs drawn as the Gaels went 2-2 against University of LaVerne, Chapman College, No. 15 University of Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
Versus LaVerne, he put up four goals with an assist in a 14-6 victory before tallying a goal with two kickouts drawn against Chapman (7-6 L) and three goals with an assist and two kickouts drawn versus Redlands (9-8 L).
In the tournament finale versus CMS, he netted another hat-trick with three kickouts drawsn and a field block in a 10-8 win.
