Duke's Ted Belsches Named Oct. 27 Atlantic Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Duke University goalkeeper Ted Belsches made 30 saves and three steals with a 7.67 goals against average in three games, including 15 stops in a 10-8 win over Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University in the division title game, to earn October 27 Atlantic Division Player of the Week honors as the Blue Devils captured the program's first division title and appearance at the National Collegiate Club Championship.
Belsches helped Duke to wins over the University of Maryland (12-7 W), the University of North Carolina (12-8 W) and Virginia Tech to win the division crown and the program's first berth at Nationals as the title marks the Blue Devils' first in three title game appearances in the Atlantic Division as Duke previously fell to Georgetown University and Virginia Tech in the 2005 and 2006 division title games, respectively.
Duke will continue the season on November 14-16 at Ohio University for the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship (NCCC) tournament. The Blue Devils, who earn the No. 14 seed based on the Atlantic Division's finish at the 2007 NCCC Tournament will open the tournament at 11:20 a.m. on the 14th versus the University of Illinois-Chicago.
