Hartwick's Sian Ells-Tewhiu Named March 2 Northern Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Hartwick College's Sian Ells-Tewhiu (Fr., Wellington, New Zealand/Queen Margaret College) scored 10 goals with three assistsn and nine steals to earn the March 2 Northern Division Rookie of the Week award and lead the No. 15-nationally ranked Hawks to a 4-0 record at the 2009 Elite Six Tournament hosted by Bucknell University on February 28-March 1.
Playing against some of the Collegiate Water Polo Association's top teams, she tallied a goal and an assist against No. 14 University of Michigan (9-7 W) and Princeton University (8-6 W) on the first day of competition, before erupting for eight goals on Day Two in victories over No. 20 University of Maryland (15-9 W) and Bucknell (13-9 W).
Her best game of the weekend came against the Maryland Terrapins as she tallied a career-high five goals with four steals and an assist, before wrapping up the tournament with three more markers and a steal against the Bucknell Bison.
