Notre Dame's Kelly Horner Named March 16 Midwest Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Two-meter Kelly Horner (Sr., Holland, Mich./West Ottowa) of the University of Notre Dame scored 25 goals to lead the Fighting Irish in scoring during a West Coast trip and earn the March 16 Midwest Division Player of the Week award. She finished with seven goals in the Foothill College Tournament in which Notre Dame knocked off then No. 1 University of Oregon (7-5 W).
A 2008 All-America third team selection, she led Notre Dame in ejections drawn as the Fighting Irish finished 4-3 on the week with wins over Oregon and California State University-Maritime Academy (10-1 W) in club competition, with victories over Wheaton College (15-8 W) and Azusa Pacific University (9-3 W) against varsity foes.
In addition, the Fighting Irish fell to 2008 National Collegiate Club Champion California Polytechnic State University (5-3 L) in the Football Tournament title game and dropped games against a pair of varsity teams as California State University-Monterey Bay (8-7 L) and California State University-San Bernardino (12-5 L) were victorious.
A five-time division champion (1999, 2001-02, 2007-08) and currently ranked No. 3 in the March 18 National Collegiate Club Poll, Notre Dame finished 4-0 during the Midwest Division regular season to clinch the No. 1 seed for the division championship tournament on April 18-19 at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
