Indiana's Jakie Kohli Selected to 2009 Canadian World University Games Roster

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Jakie Köhli (Fr., Burnaby, B.C./Moscrop Secondary) has been selected to represent Canada in Belgrade, Serbia at the 2009 FISU Games on July 1-12. Köhli was among 14 athletes chosen to make up the Canadian roster for the World University Games.

"The Canadian Women's Water Polo Team is currently ranked as one of the top six countries in the world and goes into the 2009 FISU Games with medal hopes. As a Road to Excellence (RTE) targeted sport, Water Polo Canada considers the FISU Games, to be one of the major water polo events within their upcoming four year program cycle and it will be used as preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games," said Gyula Toth, Women's Head FISU Coach.

Köhli is on the heels of a stellar freshman season for the Hoosiers, starting 25 games and recording 29 goals and a team-high 37 assists. She also racked up two or more steals in 22 matches, while grabbing a total of 62 takeaways on the year.

"Playing on the World University Games team for Canada will be a very valuable experience for Jakie," said Indiana head coach Barry King. "Her skills and knowledge will be tested at the highest level. When she shares those experiences with her teammates at Indiana, everyone will benefit."

Köhli was named CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week on March 23 and 30, en route to earning CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Year honors. She was also named to the CWPA Western Division All-Conference Second Team.
