BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association has released the organization's annual report for the 2008-09 academic year detailing the expenditures and income, highlights and future plans of the organization.
Presented during the 2008-09 CWPA Annual Meeting on Monday, June 1 at the Hampton Inn in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania, the report provides, examines and analyzes an overview of the administrative, officiating, communications, membership services and fiscal viability of the Collegiate Water Polo Association since the issuance of the previous Annual Report in June 2008.
Under the mission of the Collegiate Water Polo Association "to enhance and enrich the student-athlete experience by providing service that goes above and beyond what is expected," highlights from the past year include:
- The CWPA coordinated a competitive schedule for 18 men's divisions and 15 women's divisions throughout the country.
- Referees were assigned to over 1,400 league games and approximately 900 non-league games.
- More than 1,100 student-athletes received awards via the CWPA's All-Conference and All-Tournament teams.
- The conference began to offer an on-line education program using video clips for the instruction of referees.
- The CWPA launched a reformatted and expanded website which
increased the number of web-hits, including 4,675,588 unique hits
during the period of February-May, 2009.
- Each host site received scoresheets for each game, five Kap 7 balls and a scorecard.
- Each member institution received a new Kap 7 ball, Fox 40 whistle and NCAA rulebook each season.
- The CWPA launched a program of webinars for new team leaders and coaches orientation into the league.
- League membership moved to 142 men's and 99 women's teams, totaling 241 teams.
