Kohli & Team Canada Set for Medal Round at 2009 World University Games

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Jakie Köhli (Burnaby, B.C./Moscrop Secondary), a rising sophomore on the Indiana University water polo team, has been competing with Team Canada at the U-19 World University Games in Belgrade, Serbia for the past week. Köhli and Team Canada went 2-1 in pool play to advance to the medal round this week.

Team Canada opened pool play on July 1 against the host, Serbia, and came away with a 9-3 victory and Köhli played six minutes to help the Canadian cause. On July 3, Canada downed Japan by a score of 10-5 with Köhli playing four and a half minutes. In the finale of pool play, Canada matched up against a powerful team representing Russia and fell, 13-7.

Despite the loss, Team Canada advanced to the medal round this week and will square off with Australia on Tuesday at 10:20 a.m. Eastern time. A win will send Canada into the semifinals against China on Thursday. A loss to Australia will drop Canada into the Fifth Place game on Thursday against the loser between Serbia and Hungary.
