Brown Releases 2009 Men's Water Polo Schedule

2009 Brown University Men's Water Polo Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Brown University head coach Felix Mercado recently released the Bears' tentative 2009 men's water polo schedule.

The 2008 Northern Division runner-up, the Bears will open the season at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Invitational in Cambridge, Mass. on Sept. 5-6 against Pacific University, University of Redlands and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, before moving south to participate in the Princeton Invitational against Iona College, University of California-Los Angeles, Bucknell University and the host Tigers on Sept. 11-13.

Mercado and his ursine go back on the road the following weekend as Brown will participate in the 2009 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship at Princeton on Sept. 19-20. 

The Northern Division regular season will then crank up as the Bears will travel to MIT (Sept. 24) and Fordham University (Sept. 27), face St. Francis College in non-division action at Fordham (Sept. 27) before squaring off with Harvard University (Oct. 10) in Cambridge, Mass.

October 11 brings a division meeting with Iona at MIT before Brown goes to Connecticut College for divisional games against the host Camels (Oct. 13) and Queens College (Oct. 17).

The Bears will meet another potential Eastern Championship foe at Connecticut as Brown will face Mercyhurst College of the Southern Division in non-division action (Oct. 17) before leavign the East Coast for the first-time on Oct. 23 to participate in the Santa Clara Invitational.

Brown will wrap-up the regular season on Halloween, October 31 in a potential thriller at Wheaton College against MIT in the Bears' sole home-contest of the season.

The postseason starts one weekend later as the Bears and the rest of the Northern Division teams travel to Harvard for the Northern Division Championship (Nov. 7-8) with berths to the Eastern Championship (Nov. 21-22) at MIT on the line.

The Bears finished 18-11 overall last season and went 7-0 in Northern Division play before finishing second at the Northern Division Championship and advancing to the Eastern Championship semifinals.
