George Washington Announces 2009 Women's Schedule
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The George Washington University women's water polo will hope that the season-opener on February 14 at home in the Smith Center versus Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division rival Princeton University is the start of a three-month run to the NCAA Championship at the University of Maryland.
Following the team's opener against the Tigers early on Valentine's Day in the nation's capital, the Colonials will hit the road and travel to the University of Maryland for the Terrapin Invitational on February 14-15.
The team will then trek north to New Jersey for the Princeton Invitational (February 21-22) before returning home to the Smith Center to meet Maryland on February 26.
After competing at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on February 28-March 1 at Marist College against some of the East Coast's other best teams from the CWPA and the MAAC, George Washington will return home on March 5 to meet Bucknell in the Colonials' third Southern Division game of the year.
The squad will hit the road again for the second Terrapin Invitational (March 7-8) before jetting to the West Coast for single games at Whittier College (March 18), Occidental College (March 19) and Concordia College (March 20).
George Washington will conclude its' West Coast swing on March 21-22 at the Lancer Invitational hosted by California Baptist University before flying home to begin the regular season stretch run to the division championship.
On the heels of non-conference games at Villanova University versus Iona College (March 28) and the host Wildcats (March 27), the Colonials will hit the road to Princeton (March 28) for another CWPA Southern Division game
GW will wrap-up the league regular season on April 1 and 4 as the team will travel to Maryland and Bucknell University, respectively, before taking on defending CWPA Eastern Champion the University of Michigan at Bucknell on April 4.
The Southern Division season will conclude on April 18 at Maryland as the Colonials, Bucknell, Princeton and the host Terrapins clash for two guaranteed spots and the possibility of an at-large bid to the eight team Eastern Championship on April 24-26 at Harvard University.
If GW can qualify for Easterns and take the league championship, the team will conclude the season in the shadow of Washington, D.C. as the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championship on May 8-10.
