Northwest Division Set to Open 2009 Women's National Collegiate Club Season
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. -- The 2009 Women's National Collegiate Club season will begin this weekend as the University of Oregon "A" & "B", the University of Washington "A" & "B", Oregon State University, Western Washington University, Western Oregon University will travel to Curtis High School in University Place, Wash.
Complete results of the tournament and all CWPA tournaments during the year will be available on the CWPA Schedules page.
The biggest question this year in the Northwest will be: Can national championship runner-up the University of Oregon "A" repeat their 7-0 mark during the 2008 regular season and capture their fifth straight Northwest Division Championship?
Hunting the Ducks in 2009 will be the University of Washington "A" which fell to Oregon 9-7 in the season opening tournament of 2008 and dropped a 13-8 verdict in the division championship game. Washington, which has dropped five-straight division title games to Simon Fraser Univeristy (2004) and Oregon (2005-08), will seek to open the new season on the right path in order to reclaim the division title for the first time since 2003.
However, a new championship contender could emerge from Curtis as Western Washington, Western Oregon, Oregon "B", Washington "B" and Oregon State will seek to records from a year ago and take the first step towards knocking off five time-titleists Washington and Oregon.
