Maryland Releases 2009 Schedule

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The University of Maryland, host of the 2009 NCAA Championship, will seek to qualify for the Eastern Championship and have a shot at playing for the national championship at home as the Terrapins released their 2009 women's water polo schedule.

Comprised of five tournaments, the Collegiate Water Polo Association Southern Division slate of games and a West Coast swing, Maryland's schedule will start on February 7-8 at the Triton Invitational.

Following CWPA Southern Division games on February 14-15, the Terrapins will travel north of the Mason-Dixon Line to the Princeton Invitational (February 21-22) before taking on George Washington University (February 26) in Washington D.C.

The team will then go to Bucknell University for the Elite Six Tournament (February 28-March 1) and host the Terrapin Invitational (March 7-8) in Maryland before hitting the road to the West Coast for games versus the University of California-Davis (March 14), University of California (March 15), Santa Clara University (March 15), California State University-Monterey Bay (March 17) and Sonoma State University (March 17).

Maryland will then return home to take on Bucknell University on March 26 in College Park before travelling west to Indiana University to compete in the Fluid Four Tournament (March 28-29). 

George Washington will travel to Maryland (April 1) and Bucknell will venture to College Park (April 4) for the Terrapins' final regular season games.

On April 18, Maryland will host the Southern Division Championship against George Washington, Bucknell and Princeton with the top two teams earning automatic bids to the Eastern Championship on April 24-26 at Harvard University.

The season wraps up on May 8-10 in College Park as Maryland is the site of the 2009 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship.
