Six of CWPA's Best to Meet in 2009 Elite Six Tournament at Bucknell University
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- 2008 Collegiate Water Polo Association Eastern Champion the University of Michigan leads a field that includes six of the East Coast's best women's water polo teams as Michigan, Hartwick College, Princeton University, the University of Maryland, Bucknell University and Harvard University will meet at the 2009 Elite Six Tournament on February 28-March 1 at Bucknell.
Established as a meeting place for the top six teams from the previous seasons Eastern Championship, the tournament will feature five of the eight participants from the 2008 Eastern tournament at the University of Michigan.
Brown University, which qualified for the Elite Six tournament, will not compete electing to take part in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship on the 28th-1st. Bucknell University, which finished sixth at the 2008 Eastern Championship to qualify, is followed by Harvard University as Indiana University and Mercyhurst College, which placed seventh and eighth at the 2008 Eastern Championship, elected to compete at the University of California-Santa Cruz Slugfest and ECACs, respectively.
Harvard, which did not qualify for Easterns a year ago, earns the sixth seed for being the best team from 2008 which did not make the Eastern field and elected not to compete at ECACs.
Game times and matchups for the Elite Six Tournament will be announced at a later date.
