Michigan's Julie Hyrne Named February 16 Western Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Two-meter Julie Hyrne (Sr., Sunnyvale, Calif./Archbishop Mitty) of the University of Michigan posted seven steals with a pair of goals and three assists to earn the February 16 Western Division Player of the Week award and lead the Wolverines to a 3-0 weekend with wins over Harvard University (13-2 W), Siena College (15-4 W) and Brown University (8-4 W) over the weekend at the Harvard Invitational.
She contributed in all three games posting a goal with two steals versus Harvard, two assists and two steals against Siena and a goal with five steals and an assist versus Brown.
Her assist against Brown was historic as she reached the 100 assist plateau to become the third Wolverine player joining Erin Brown (133, 200-05) and Sheetal Narsai (118, 2002-05) to reach the century mark. In addition, she claimed sole possession of third place in assists at Michigan with her weekend performance breaking a tie with Shana Welch (97, 2004-07).
Further, she established a career single-game high with her five swipes versus the Bears.
The selection marks the eighth consecutive week a Michigan player has been named Western Division Player of the Week dating back to April 14, 2008. During the stretch, Sharayah Hernandez (Sr., Pico Rivera, Calif./El Rancho) (April 14, April 21), Hyrne (April 21), Leah Robertson (Jr., Newport Beach, Calif./Newport Harbor) (April 28, January 26) and Alison Mantel (So., Miami, Fla/Gulliver) (April 28, February 9) have earned or shared the honor.
