Teliski & Gansell Named 2008 Men's Sports Information Directors of the Year
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Gannon University's Dan Teliski and Saint Francis College's David Gansell have been named the 2008 Men's Sports Information Directors of the Year for the men's season.
Selected by the CWPA Director of Communications, the SID of the Year award is presented to those offices which have achieved notable excellence in the field of water polo communications during the past academic year.
In addition, the United States Naval Academy's Chris Forman was honored with the Second Annual Publication Award from the CWPA for "outstanding achievement in print materials" for the program's 2008 Men's Media Guide.
The Southern Division SID of
the Year, Teliski is currently in his 10th year as the Director of
Athletic Media Relations at Gannon University.
A 1997 graduate of Gannon, he is responsible for the production of
athletic publications, media relations, statistical record keeping,
day-to-day web site maintenance, home event management, and
promotion of Gannon’s student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
He has received 25 national awards and numerous regional awards for
his publications. The College Sports Information Directors of
America (CoSIDA) honored several of his publications during the
2007-08 academic year, selecting the men’s soccer media guide
No. 1 in the country for the third time in the last five years and
placing five publications among the top 16 in Division II. The
2007-08 Gannon men’s soccer media guide, football gameday
program, women’s soccer media guide, and volleyball media
guide were all judged best in the region. In all, Gannon has
received 10 “Best in the Nation” honors during
Teliski’s tenure.
The Northern Division SID of the Year, Gansell is in his second year as Director of Sports Information & Marketing at St. Francis.
The Assistant Director/Director of
Media Relations at the City University of New York Athletic
Conference (CUNYAC) for four years prior to joining the Terriers'
staff, Gansell, assisted with the conference’s daily
operations and was responsible for overseeing the entire media
relations efforts of the league. He played a key role in the
conference’s television and internet radio efforts, and was
instrumental in securing a partnership with Time Warner Cable
(TWC).
Previous to his appointment at CUNYAC, Gansell spent seven years
at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), where he
worked in the Sports Information Department. He served as Assistant
Director and later was promoted to Associate Director. Gansell
acted as the primary contact for numerous Retrievers’ teams,
handling game operations and publicity.
A 1995 graduate of UMBC, Gansell earned his Bachelor of Arts
degree in Sports Management and received a minor in writing. As a
student, he interned in the UMBC Sports Information Office and
performed an additional internship with the Baltimore Orioles Class
A affiliate Frederick Keys. After graduating, he was hired as a
Sports Information Intern at the University of Delaware, and six
months later returned to his alma mater to accept a full-time
role.
Gansell also has served in various part-time capacities with the
Baltimore Stallions (Canadian Football League), Baltimore Ravens
(National Football League), and the Baltimore Orioles Class AA
affiliate Bowie Baysox (AA).
The 2007 Southern Division SID of the Year, Forman earns his second Publication Award from the CWPA as his 2008 media guide was judged best in the league.
