Harvard Releases 2009 Women's Schedule

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Another competitive season awaits the Crimson as the Harvard University women’s water polo teams released its 2009 schedule this week. Four teams ranked in last season’s final varsity top 20 poll highlight the slate as head coach Erik Farrar and his squad will look to build upon last year’s third-place finish at the Northern Division Championships.

The season kicks off for the Crimson with three straight tournaments, starting with the Harvard Invitational Feb. 14-15 at Blodgett Pool. Harvard will then compete in the Princeton Invitational Feb. 21-22, followed by the Elite 6 Tournament Feb. 28-March 1 at Bucknell University.

Following a two-week break, Harvard returns to the pool with a pair of road games at Hartwick College (March 14) and at the New York Athletic Club (March 15). A road trip out west then awaits the Crimson, beginning with a match at last year’s No. 3 team in the nation, Stanford University, on March 21.

Harvard will play five more games in a four-day span to finish the trip, starting with Sonoma State University (March 24). After taking on University of the Pacific (March 25,) Harvard will play a pair of games at the University of California-Davis (March 26). After facing the host Aggies, the No. 5 team in last year’s final poll, earlier in the day, Harvard will face the University of California-Santa Cruz, the No. 4 team in last season’s final Division II poll. The Crimson then finish up with a match against California State University-Monterey Bay (March 27).

Harvard returns east for its only two regular season games at home April 4. The Crimson will host Hartwick at 1:30 p.m., followed by a game with Brown University at 6 p.m. The next day, Harvard will hit the road again for a pair of games at Connecticut College as a match against Utica College will be followed by a game against the host Camels.

A final regular-season match against Brown at Wheaton College April 9 will lead into the Northern Division Championship April 18-19 at Connecticut College. Blodgett Pool will host its final action of the 2009 collegiate water polo season when the Eastern Championship comes to town April 24-26.

Harvard finished 12-12 last season and ninth in the final CWPA poll.
