CWPA Releases 2008 Men's Eastern Championship Feedback Summary

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- The Collegiate Water Polo Association has released the feedback survey summary from the 2008 Men's Eastern Championship on November 21-23 at the United States Naval Academy.

Below is a summary of the feedback received from fans during the Eastern Championship at Navy.  The league appreciates the constructive suggestions and will try to improve the event moving forward.

Communication prior to the event    

Interaction with staff  - 3

Website info - 2

Most thought the website info was great, although one person noted it was difficult to locate. Another suggested we offer recaps for each game with statistics.

CWPA Note: We post recaps with statistics immediately following each game on the website. Printed copies are also posted in the concessions area.

One person asked that the schedule be posted earlier in the year.

CWPA Note: The seeding is determined by finish within the respective Division Championships and is therefore not available until Monday following these events.


Banquet         

Many felt that the Hall of Fame recipient spoke too long.

Program - 3

Price - 2


Tournament Management    

Awards ceremony - 3

Some felt that Division MVP awards should be given following the last day to ensure unsportsmanlike behavior is not rewarded.

Facility - 2

Individuals indicated the pool was easy to locate. Many fans expressed their displeasure regarding the manner in which the maintenance of the facility was addressed, including bathroom and hallway cleanliness.

Staff - 3

Fans stated that the CWPA staff was very helpful and courteous

Crowd control and spectator area - 2

All spectator problems seemed to point towards the semi-final game between Saint Francis and Navy where some fans were abusive and confrontational to players and other spectators.

CWPA Note: There was a lack of visible security during the beginning of the contest which enabled the situation to get worse. We will be addressing this for future events in a stronger manner.

Hotel - 3

Those staying at the hotel were unanimous in their appreciation for the staff and property.

Announcer - 3

99 % of the respondents liked the announcer, although a few felt he was too loud. One suggested more in-depth explanations were needed for new fans.

Music

100% of those responding enjoyed the selections

Merchandise

99% thought merchandise was adequate. One individual would like to see t-shirts in other colors besides white and one wanted larger sizes.

One person stated the water was overpriced, while another requested that food concessions should remain open through halftime of the last game each day.

CWPA Note: Unfortunately we sold out of the larger tournament shirt sizes on Saturday. In addition, the CWPA did not determine the food concession prices or schedule. These were handled by Navy.

Add a blog during the championships

Provide a kickout board for spectators

Make championship two days instead of three

CWPA Note: Member teams have determined to use a three-day format to enhance the competitiveness of the games.

Red carded coach was in stands yelling to players during the game he was suspended

CWPA Note: The incident involving the Saint Francis coach and players is currently under review by the CWPA.

Reach out to local high school teams

CWPA Note: The CWPA held an age group clinic on Saturday morning for 2.5 hours, followed by a high school all-star game Saturday afternoon before the semi-final action. We also sent invitations to all of the area high schools offering a discounted ticket plan.
