Navy's Kyle Wertz Named Dec. 8 Southern Division Player & Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Kyle Wertz (Fr., San Diego, Calif./Westview) of the United States Naval Academy made history becoming the first player to earn both the Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week awards during the same time period as he was honored with both awards for the week ending December 8 following his performance at the 2008 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Championship on the campus of Stanford University.
Wertz, who was named the Eastern Championship Outstanding Rookie for helping the Midshipmen capture their third straight Collegiate Water Polo Association title, picks up his first Player of the Week award and his third Rookie of the Week honor after capturing the September 8 and November 24 awards.
He concludes the year with 48 goals in his first year of collegiate competition.
