California Polytechnic Remains No. 1 in April 8 Women's Collegiate Club Poll

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- California Polytechnic State University, the defending 2008 National Collegiate Club champion, remains a top the women's collegiate club ranks this week as the Mustangs garnered 99 points to remain the No. 1 team in the April 8 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.

The Mustangs, which were ranked No. 1 in the final 2008 poll, preseason and first six weekly polls of the 2009 season, regained the top position last week and are one of three teams to hold the top spot this season joining University of Oregon (March 4, March 11) and University of California-Los Angeles (March 4, March 18, March 25).

University of Notre Dame and UCLA follow the Mustangs in the poll as the top three teams in the country remained constant.  University of Michigan surpassed University of California-Davis for the No. 4 position this week, dropping the Aggies back to No. 5, while University of Oregon stayed at No. 6.

Grand Valley State University improved five positions to No. 7,  Michigan State University and University of Utah moved into a tie at No. 8 and University of Arizona rounds out the Top 10 as the Wildcats crept to No. 10 after ranking 11th a week ago.

University of Illinois and University of Florida dropped out of the Top 10 to No. 11 and 12, respectively, while the University of Pennsylvania held firm at No. 13 for another week.

Miami University (Ohio) and University of California-San Diego rose to No. 14 and 15, an improvement of one place for both squads, and the University of Texas slipped to No. 16.

The No. 17-19 rankings remained the same from the April 1 balloting as California State University-Chico, Boston College and New York University defended their positions, with Dartmouth College cracking the Top 20 at the final position to replace Purdue University which slipped out of the rankings this week.
