Indiana's Cassie Wyckoff Named April 6 Western Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Indiana University goalie Cassie Wyckoff (Fr., Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) made 31 saves with a pair of steals in 88 minutes of play to earn the April 6 Western Division Player of the Week award and lead the No. 19-ranked Hoosiers to wins over Gannon University (12-7 W), Mercyhurst College (11-7 W), Bucknell University (7-4 W) and George Washington University (12-6).
Her best performance of the week came against Bucknell as she made 13 saves while allowing only four goals. During the first quarter against the Bison, Wyckoff dominated with two crucial five meter penalty saves to allow Indiana to maintain their lead that they would never relinquish.
She started the weekend strong, with a 10 save outing in the Hoosiers' against Gannon as Wyckoff allowed three goals and added a steal in 16 minutes of action against the Knights.
Against Mercyhurst, she started the game making four saves with a steal and two goals allowed in 16 minutes before being lifted. In addition, she recorded four saves versus George Washington to finish the Hoosiers' four-game East Coast swing with a miserly 3.0 goals against average and up her season save total to 164.
The award marks the second time Wyckoff has been recognized by the league this year as she previously garnered February 9 Western Division Rookie of the Week recognition. Further, the honor marks the third earned by a Wyckoff this year as her sister and teammate Lauren Wyckoff (So., Los Altos, Calif./Los Altos) was named the March 9 Western Division Player of the Week.
Indiana, which clinched the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Western Division Championship on April 18-19 at home in Bloomington, is 17-14, including 6-1 mark in Western Division play.
