Notre Dame's Kat Kennifer & Kristen Harchut Earn April 6 Midwest Division Co-Player of the Week Honors
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Driver Kat Kennifer (Sr., Monterey, Calif./Santa Cataline) and two-meter defender Kristen Harchut (Sr., Maple Glenn, Pa./Upper Dublin) of the No. 2 nationally-ranked University of Notre Dame Fightin' Irish women's water polo team led their squad to a 4-0 record at the Michigan Invitational to share the April 6 Midwest Division Player of the Week award.
Two of three tri-captains for Notre Dame with goalie Betsy O'Neill (Jr., Danville, Calif./San Ramon Valley), the duo powered the Irish to wins over No. 5-ranked University of Michigan (11-7 W), No. 7 Michigan State University (9-5 W), No. 12 Grand Valley State University (14-5 W) and Eastern Michigan University (12-5 W).
On offense, Kennifer (pictured lower left) scored eight times last week, including three-markers in a come-from-behind victory over Michigan, while Harchut (pictured lower right) controlled the middle on defense.
Due to Harchut's defense, Notre Dame was able to rally from a 5-3 first period deficit against the Wolverines, while holding hot-handed Grand Valley State to five goals.
