Maryland's Elina Goldenberg Named April 27 Southern Division Rookie of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Elina Goldenberg of the University of Maryland scored four goals in a 12-8 win for the No. 20-ranked Terrapins over No. 19 Brown University in the third place game of the 2009 Eastern Championship at Harvard University to earn the April 27 Southern Division Rookie of the Week award.
Held scoreless in a 15-11 win over Bucknell University in the opening round and a 9-8 loss to No. 12-ranked and 2009 Eastern Champion the University of Michigan in the semifinals, Goldenberg broke loss for four scores against the Bears to earn All-Tournament seocnd team honors and lead the Terrapins to their highest finish in program history.
The finish marks a one place improvement for the Terps as Maryland previously placed fourth (2008), sixth (2007) and seventh (2006) at the Eastern Championship.
For Goldenberg, the award marks her fourth Rookie of the Week honor and sixth overall award as she was previously honored on February 16, March 30 and April 20 with the first-year award and March 2 and April 20 as the Southern Division Player of the Week.
