Maryland's Blaise Stanicic Named April 27 Southern Division Player of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Blaise Stanicic (Sr., Annapolis, Md./The Key School) of the University of Maryland recorded hat-tricks against Bucknell University and No. 12 University of Michigan to earn the April 27 Southern Division Player of the Week award. She helped lead the No. 20 Terrapins to a third place finish at the 2009 Eastern Championship at Harvard University.
In the opening round, she netted three goals in a 15-11 victory over Bucknell, before chipping in another hat-trick in a 9-8 semifinal loss to eventual Eastern Champion Michigan.
Although she was held scoreless in
a 12-8 victory over No. 19 Brown University in the third palce
game, Stanicic helped key the Terrapins to their highest finish in
program history.
The finish marks a one place improvement for the Terps as Maryland
previously placed fourth (2008), sixth (2007) and seventh (2006) at
the Eastern Championship.
