Maryland-Princeton to Clash for Southern Division Crown

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland women's water polo team beat George Washington, 15-7, in its CWPA Southern Division Championship semifinal match at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium.

The Terps (13-12, 6-1 CWPA South) took an early 5-0 lead and never looked back to advance to the CWPA Southern Division Championship final. Princeton won an overtime thriller against Bucknell, 10-9, in the other semifinal game.

The final, which will serve as Maryland's Senior Night, will be played at Eppley Recreation Center Natatorium at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, following the 4:30 p.m. consolation match.

The Terrapins dominated the Colonials on both ends of the pool. Maryland took 35 shots and converted four of eight 6-on-5 situations, while holding the visitors to 20 shots and stifling nine of their thirteen power play opportunities. Elizabeth Hopkins led all scorers with four goals, including both of her 5-meter attempts.

Maryland led 4-0 after the first period by successfully executing their first three 6-on-5 opportunities. Rachel Jordan scored two of the power play goals before picking up her third ejection in the second quarter.

Blaise Stanicic and Allison Beck each scored a pair of goals, while Shannon Simerly, Christen Vagts, Elina Goldenberg, Callan Rowe, and Carly Hoshko rounded out the rest of the scoring.

Ashleigh Jobson tended the net for the first three periods blocking six shots, while allowing only five. Shelby Reyes closed out the game blocking one shot and allowing two goals.

Allison Peoter, Amy Moren, and Erin Delker led George Washington with two goals apiece. Charlotte Schou held her own in net, playing the whole game and blocking 13 shots.

Princeton needed extra time to defeat Bucknell. Helen Meigs scored a game-high four goals and Phoebe Champion scored the game-winning goal with 1:25 remaining in the second overtime period. Haley Prickett scored three goals for the Bison, who will play the Colonials for third place in tonight's consolation game.
