No. 17 Boston College Handles No. 18 NYU 10-4 in Second Round of National Collegiate Club Championship
DAVIS, Calif. -- No. 17 Boston College opened up a 7-1 halftime lead and cruised to a 10-4 win over No, 18 New York University behind a hat-trick from Kristina Norrgard (Fr., Greenwich, Conn.) in the consolation round of the 2009 National Collegiate Club Championship on the campus of University of California-Davis.
Squaring off in a steady downpour of rain capped off by frigid temperatures for Northern California, the Eagles never let up in the contest ripping off a pair of goals in the first period and five in the second period to open up a six-goal lead by the end of the first 14 minutes of play.
The margin expanded to 8-1 over half-way through the third period as Noorgard completed her hat-trick with a natural goal with 2:17 left in the seven-minute period.
BC added to the lead in the fourth period with markers by Debra Hwang (So., Ann Arbor, Mich.) at 5:07 and 3:39 to build the lead to 9-1 and later 10-2 as the Eagles permitted three goals in the final period for the 10-4 final score.
Mackenzie Campbell (So., Foster City, Calif.) and Hwang chipped in pairs of goals for Boston College, while Torie Pascoe (Sr., Tacoma, Wash.), Allison Samluk (Sr., Chicago, Ill.) and Lisa Stebbins (So., Portsmouth, N.H.) tacked on solo scores as BC advances to face either No. 3 University of California-Los Angeles or No. 14 California State University-Chico at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 2 with a bid to the ninth placce game on the line.
Anne Marie Butler (Gr., Tulsa, Okla.) led the offense for NYU with a pair of goals in addition to Meredith Lewis (Gr., Brockport, N.Y.) and Rita Warkov (So., Los Gatos, Calif.) who added single goals.
NYU will next be in action at 1:40
p.m. on May 2 against the loser of a second round game between
CSU-Chico and UCLA.
