Fordham Announces Men's Class of 2012 Recruits
BRONX, N.Y. --
Fordham University water polo coach Bill Harris
announced five new additions to the Fordham water polo squad as
goalkeeper Christian Flessner (Naperville, Ill./Naperville
North), driver Andrew McKernin (Riverside,
Ill./Fenwick), driver Ian Pruitt (San Clemente,
Calif./San Clemente), two-meter J.D. Shrewsbury
(Town & Country, Mo./Desmet Jesuit) and driver
Tim Simo (Placentia, Calif./Mater Dei) will
continue their careers in the Bronx.
"These student-athletes will give us additional depth and team
speed this fall and I am looking forward to all of them
contributing to our program early on. They are coming from
established programs and I believe they will adjust quickly to the
college game," said Harris.
Flessner was a four-year varsity water polo player at Naperville
North High School, serving as a team captain. A member of the
All-Sectional team, he set school records for saves in a game,
saves in a season, and fewest goals against in a single season.
McKernin had a standout career at Fenwick High School, helping his
team to four straight State Championships (2005-08). A team captain
in 2008, he was named Conference Player of the Year, as well as
First Team All-State and to the Sectional First Team. As a junior,
he was a Fifth Team All-American and a Third Team All-State
selection. McKernin also played club water polo for Windy City
Water Polo and was named to the J.O. Team twice (2005-06) and the
Midwest Zone B Team once (2006).
Pruitt was a two-year member of the varsity water polo team at San
Clemente High School, as well as a three-year member of the varsity
swimming team. He served as team captain of the water polo team and
was an All-League performer.
Shrewsbury, the brother of recent Fordham water polo graduate Paul
Shrewsbury, was a three-year varsity water polo player at Desmet
Jesuit High School in St. Louis, Missouri. A two-year captain at
Desmet, he was a three-time All-State and All-Conference selection.
He was selected as team MVP as a senior and holds the school record
for most goals in a season.
Simo was a four-year member of both the water polo and swimming
teams at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, California. He was
named Third Team All-CIF and was a three-time All-League performer,
garnering First Team honors twice. A two-year captain of the swim
team, he was selected to the All-America Interscholastic Swimming
Team for the 2006-07 season. A four-year member of the Renaissance
Club and Honor Roll at Mater Dei, Simo also played club water polo
for Regency Water Polo.
