Northern Division


11-7 Andrew Wiener, Brown University

Andy played outstanding water polo all weekend for Brown and led the Bears to a
third place finish at Northern Championships. Against Harvard, he had two goals
including the game winner with 14 seconds to go in the game. Wiener also stopped
a crucial counterattack opportunity for Harvard late in the game. He also had two goals
against St. Francis and two against Iona and drew a four-meter penalty.

 

10-31 Caner Erdogru, Queens College

Caner Erdogru led Queens College to a 10-5 ECAC Championship victory over
Princeton with five goals, two assists and three ejections drawn. For the weekend,
he had seven goals for the #11 ranked Knights.

  10-24 Paul Tselentis, Harvard University
Senior goalkeeper Paul Tselentis led Harvard to a 3-0 record this weekend, upping the Crimson's CWPA mark to 7-1 on the season. Tselentis stood out in matches against St. Francis College, thirteen saves, and Iona, eight saves, to give the Crimson their highest regular season finish in school history. Paul made several spectacular saves in the St. Francis game, posting nine saves in the first half alone, and anchored the defense against Iona, holding the Gaels to one first half goal.

 

 

10-2 Chris Przekota, Iona College

Junior Co - Captain Chris Przekota scored nine goals and added five assists
to lead Iona to a 2-1 mark at the Princeton North South Invitational. Przekota
added six steals and six ejections drawn for the weekend. In Iona's first defeat
of the season, a sudden death thriller at the hands of Princeton, Przekota scored
two goals, tallied three assists, and drew four ejections including one four-meter
penalty.

 

9-26 Gergely Fabian, St. Francis College
Gergely Fabian (Budapest, Hungary) arrived in Brooklyn only a few weeks ago
to play collegiate water polo for nationally ranked St. Francis College.
Across the world in Budapest, Hungary, he left family and friends. Due to a
recent tragic accident in Budapest, Gergely lost his father. Despite the
loss, the freshman shined in the water this weekend. Out of the
24 goals his team scored this weekend, Gergely had 10. In a hard fought
match against Brown University, Gergely led the Terriers with six goals. In the
second match of the day, Gergely again led St. Francis to a win against
Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), scoring four out of the teams
eight goals.

 

9-19 Doug Grutzmacher, Brown University
Junior co-captain Doug Grutzmacher had an exception game in the come-from-
behind victory against MIT on Friday night. He recorded 6 goals and drew 4
ejections in the 11-10 OT win. Doug also had 2 goals and drew 2 ejections
in the narrow 9-8 loss to Harvard.

 

9-12 Vedran Sokac, Queens College
Sophomore goaltender Vedran Sokac led Queens College to two victories at the
Navy Open last weekend. He compiled 39 saves in four games, including 13 in a

Southern Division

 

11-7 Nick Hill, United States Naval Academy
Hill, the 2002 Navy team captain, made a game-high 15 saves and grabbed three
steals with an assist in the Mids' 9-6 victory over Princeton to win the CWPA Southern
Division Championship. Hill helped Navy earn its eighth Southern Division title in
school history and first since the 2000 season. In the first half against Johns Hopkins,
Hill allowed just one goal as the Mids cruised to a 10-2 victory over the Blue Jays in
one semifinal game.

 

10-31 Alex Ratcliffe, United States Naval Academy
Navy freshman Alex Ratcliffe scored a goal and had an assist in the Mids' 7-5 win
over St. Francis (NY) in the opening game of the ECAC Championship Saturday
and then netted a team-high two goals in the Mids' 7-5 loss to Queens in the semifinal
later in the day. He played great defense and scored the final goal in Navy's 7-4 victory
over Harvard Sunday in the third-place game. Ratcliffe is Navy's second-leading scorer
this year with 30 goals.

 

10-24 Peter Sabbatini, Princeton University
Peter tallied 16 saves in the crucial league match against Navy as the Tigers
defeated the Midshipmen 9-8. Navy took a 6-4 lead into halftime but the Tiger
defense took over in the second, holding the Midshipmen to two goals. Sabbatini,
the Tigers starting goalie has been plagued by injury the past several weeks.
With the win over Navy, the Tigers wrap up the regular season at 14-5, 7-1 in the
CWPA Southern Division and enter the Southern Division Championships as the
#1 seed.

 

10-17 Brian Mead, Johns Hopkins University
Brian Mead had two goals and led Hopkins with three steals in a key matchup
with GW last week. At the Division III Eastern Championship at MIT this past
weekend, he scored two goals against Connecticut College in limited playing time.
He then recorded five goals and two steals in the semi-final against USMMA. In the
final versus MIT, a 7-6 victory, Brian had four goals. In the last ten seconds, with MIT
on the man-advantage and in a position to tie the game, he stole the ball to run out
the clock.

 

10-10 Joe Donahue, United States Naval Academy
Joe Donahue scored a game-high seven goals in the Mids' 14-3 CWPA win over
George Washington last Thursday. In addition to his seven goals, he also added
two assists and grabbed three steals. In Navy's 16-8 victory over Johns Hopkins
earlier that day, Donahue scored two goals. Navy took on Johns Hopkins in a
doubleheader Saturday and Donahue scored a goal, tallied an assist and grabbed
two steals in a 13-6 win over the Blue Jays in the opener. He did not play in the
second game against Hopkins.

 

9-26 Pat Dodge, George Washington University
GW's Pat Dodge scored a team high nine goals in two games this weekend, seven of
which were scored in a losing effort versus Princeton. In addition, Pat also drew five
ejections and tallied four assists for the day.

 

9-19 Jamie Saettele, Bucknell University
Jamie Saettele, a junior two-meter player for Bucknell, scored 13 goals and
had 5 assists in four games this weekend at the Princeton Invitational.
Saettele scored 4 goals against both Iona and St. Francis. He scored
3 goals and had 2 assists in a 12-9 victory over USMMA.

 

9-12 Ernest Martin, Bucknell University
In his first full start Ernest had 10 saves in a win over MIT that included
several one-on-none blocks. His solid four quarters were critical in holding off a
late MIT rally.
