11-21 Greg Trayer,
University of Massachusetts
Senior Greg Trayer scored
eight goals and added two assists as the 18th-ranked
University of Massachusetts men's water polo team (29-5) won the Eastern Championship.
Trayer led UMass to its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance, first since 1999.
Trayer,
who was also named the tournament's Most Valuable Player, has now tallied
49 goals on
the season. The eighth-seeded Minutemen upset top seeded Princeton in the
quarterfinals
and then topped St. Francis and Queens in the semifinals and finals, respectively.
11-7 Vedran
Sokac, Queens College
Freshman goaltender Vedran
Sokac led Queens College to the CWPA Northern Division
Championship with a superb effort in the cage this weekend. Vedran recorded
15 saves in
the Knights' 10-5 victory over Harvard in the tournament semi-final. He then stopped 10
St. Francis shots in a 6-4 victory over the Terriers in the final.
10-31 Mike Foley,
University of Massachusetts
Senior Mike
Foley scored 11 goals and added an assist as the 13th ranked UMass men's
water polo squad won four games last week, including the ECAC Championship.
Foley
added eight steals for the Minutemen. He now leads the team with 48 goals
in 73 quarters.
He also drew five penalties on the weekend.
10-24 Dave Liebert,
University of Massachusetts
Sophomore Dave
Liebert led the UMass attack with nine goals in two games this weekend
as the Minutemen scored 68 goals in four league wins over USMMA, Connecticut
College,
St. Francis and Fordham. Liebert also added two assists, three steals, one
block and three
ejections drawn. The 14th ranked Minutemen are now 20-3 on the season and
off to their best
start in six years.
10-17 Gresham Bayne, Harvard University
10-10 Vedran
Sokac, Queens College
Freshman goaltender Vedran
Sokac helped Queens College continue its CWPA
unbeaten ways with four victories this week, including at 6-5 overtime thriller
over
#12 Massachusetts. Sokac
had 10 saves in the victory.
10-3 Michel
Vieira, Queens College
Freshman Michel Vieira scored 12 goals this week for 15th ranked Queens
College.
He scored two goals in the Knights' 5-3 victory over #13 Navy and two more
in the
team's 6-5 win against #13 Princeton. Queens also notched victories over Johns
Hopkins, George Washington and the United States Merchant Marine Academy to
complete a 5-0 week.
9-26 Mike Foley, University of Massachusetts
Senior Mike Foley scored ten goals this weekend as the 13th ranked
University of Massachusetts men's water polo team improved to
11-1 with three league wins. Foley scored four apiece in wins over M.I.T.
and Harvard and then scored two second half goals, including the game winner,
as the Minutemen knocked off 17th ranked Harvard for the second time this
season. Foley, who now has 18 goals this season, also had two assists, two
ejections drawn, and a penalty shot drawn.

Senior Greg Trayer scored 13 goals in four games this weekend at the Harvard
Invitational as the 13th ranked Minutemen (8-1) went 4-0, defeating Brown,
MIT,
Iona, and Harvard. Trayer scored six goals for UMass in its thrilling 11-10
triple
overtime victory over #20 Harvard.

Iona’s leading scorer. Przekota led Iona to a 3-1 record and fifth place finish
at
the 2001 Navy Labor Day Open, scoring 20 goals, while shooting 53% from the
field, and assisting on five more. He also amassed 22 ejections drawn. Five
of the ejections drawn resulted in four-meter penalty shots. Solid on the
defensive
end, he added five steals, four field blocks, and was ejected just three times
during the tournament.
11-7 Ryan McCarty, Bucknell University
Ssenior
captain Ryan McCarty played an outstanding four games during Bucknell's 3-1
weekend and third place finish at Southern Championships. In a 12-6 victory
over
George Washington Ryan had five goals, he followed that performance with four
goals
in a two point loss to Navy and seven goals in a victory over Johns Hopkins.
Ryan finished
the weekend with 17 goals in four games.
10-31 Robert Urquhart, Princeton University
Junior Robert Urquhart
had seven goals in the 15-14 overtime win over Queens in
the third place game of the ECAC tournament, including four-for-four on four
meter
shots.
10-24 Jon Pharris, Princeton University
Pharris
held Bucknell scoreless through the first half, and finished with 13 saves
over
three quarters in Princeton's 11-4 win over the Bison. He capped the weekend
by
turning in a 15-save performance in the Tigers' 9-8 loss to Navy in the first
place
game of the CWPA inter-regional weekend.
10-17 Dave Kennedy, Bucknell University
Goaltender
Dave Kennedy had two 14 save performances and a 12 save
performance in games at the Claremont Convergence tournament. He is a mere
eight saves away from taking over first on Bucknell's career record save list,
which currently is 833 career saves.
10-10 Nick Hill, United States Naval Academy
Hill played
the first half in Navy's 8-5 win over 17th ranked Air Force and made
six saves, while allowing two goals. In the Mids' 11-6 victory at Johns Hopkins,
he played the entire game, making nine saves, while allowing six goals. He
also
grabbed two steals in the game. In Navy's final game of the day, an 11-6 victory
at George Washington, Hill made nine saves and allowed six goals to go along
with one steal. He ran the Navy defense well during the weekend and was the
backbone of a strong defensive effort turned in by the Mids.

Jon Pharris, Princeton University
Senior goaltender Jon Pharris turned in a 16 save performance in Princeton's
7-6 overtime win against Massachusetts and stopped 15 more shots in the Tigers'
7-6 overtime loss to Saint Francis.

Senior goaltender Jon Pharris had a great weekend as Princeton opened
the
CWPA portion of its schedule with four wins. He finished with 15 saves in
the
Tigers' 8-2 win over Navy and 14 in Princeton's 9-5 win at Bucknell.

Labor Day Open last weekend. Naeve sealed the win with a late goal in Navy's
8-6 championship victory over Massachusetts. In Navy's four games, Naeve
scored seven goals, had five attempts, six assists, two steals, five ejections
and five ejections drawn.
