Trojans Sneak by Gators

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - In the tightest game of the first day of competition, the University of Southern California edged the University of Florida in sudden death overtime 8-7. Dan Stenberg notched the game-winner at 2:01 of the third overtime period to send USC into the quarterfinals.

The Trojans led for the majority of the contest but could not extend their lead to more than a two-goal margin and allowed the Gators to tie the match late in the fourth quarter to send the game to overtime. Each team scored one goal in the extra session, forcing the game into a "golden goal" situation. USC meets the University of Washington in the quarterfinals while Florida plays Georgetown in the consolation bracket.
