Cal Poly Downs Fresno State

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Defending champion Cal Poly opened the 2002 National Collegiate Club Championship with a convincing 12-6 victory over Pacific Division rival Fresno State. The win extends the Mustangs' NCCC winning streak to five games.

The Bulldogs led the match 3-2 at the end of the first period, however Cal Poly outscored them by a 10-3 margin over the final three quarters. Jeremy Karas led the charge for the Mustangs, with five goals over the final three frames. Cal Poly meets Arizona in its quarterfinal match-up while Fresno State plays Miami of Ohio in the consolation bracket.
