Aysa Roberts helped NYU conclude the tournament in the ninth place game

GRESHAM, Ore. (May 4, 2008) - Kara Brockhaus (Fr., Holt, Mich.) made 16 saves to earn Player of the Game honors as No. 6 ranked Michigan Stat University defeated No. 18 New York University 8-3 in the ninth place game at the 2008 National Collegiate Club Championship.

Tied 2-2 with 4:01 left in the first period, MSU took over control of the game and reeled off three goals before halftime to carry a 5-2 lead into the break.

MSU opened the game with a 2-0 run as Kelsey Neil (So., Vista, Calif.) scored on a penalty shot 12 seconds into the game and tallied another goal on an exclusion chance at the 5:26 mark, but the Violets stormed back with an exclusion goal by Emily Rauscher (Gr., Hamilton, N.Y.) at 4:35 and an even strength score by Vanessa Jackson (Gr., Santa Barbara, Calif.) at 4:01 to pull even.

Michigan State closed the period with its third goal as Erinn Wertz (So., Belmont, Mich.) beat NYU goalie Meredith Lewis (Gr., Brockport, N.Y.) at the 3:29 mark and added two more scores in the second period as Neil buried a penalty shot at 4:35 and Kate DeMallie (So., Beverly Hills, Mich.) tacked on an even strength score for a 5-2 lead at halftime.

New York sliced the lead to 5-3 with an exclusion goal by Lauren Russell (So., Marblehead, Mass.) with 4:23 left in the third period, but MSU added insurance goals by Amanda Wooldridge (So., Rockford, Mich.), Wertz and Meghan Barry (Sr., Rolling Meadows, Ill.) at 5:30, 2:41 and 18 seconds, respectively, for the 8-3 final.
